1. Obtain a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Gain extensive experience in immigration law through internships, clerkships, or entry-level positions at law firms, government agencies, or nonprofit organizations specializing in immigration issues.
3. Proficiency in both Chinese and English is mandatory.
4. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, government officials, and other stakeholders.
5. No history of professional misconduct or disciplinary actions by judicial or administrative authorities.
6. Experience in drafting legal documents such as motions, petitions, case summaries, and affidavits.
The New York Chinese Legal Services Center provides various services to the Chinese community in the United States, including:
1. Efficient handling of marriage green card lications, family sponsorship, and various immigration cases.
2. Application for re-entry permits, citizenship, green cards, work permits, and extensions.
3. Application and renewal of Chinese and American passports, embassy-authorized notarization, and authentication.
4. Assistance for individuals without legal status in obtaining taxpayer identification numbers, personal and corporate tax filings, and handling various tax bureau correspondences.
5. Application for government housing, senior apartments, food stamps, cash assistance, and various welfare benefits.
6. Handling of retirement pensions, red and blue cards, bank cards, medical cards, medical assistance cards, senior citizen half-fare subway cards, etc.
7. Student visa lications, F-1 visas, from lication to obtaining the I-20 to scheduling visa interviews.
